You will learn the notion that the Universe is knowable, and that we come to know it through observations. You will learn how the night sky’s appearance changes with time and position on Earth and come to know the diversity of worlds of our own solar system & beyond. The course will explore cosmology from the Big-Bang to dark matter, and
the most recent discoveries in galaxy evolution.

Astronomy has brought far off elements of our universe such as galaxies, the solar system, stars, and planets within our reach through study and exploration, and the same is intended for the students taking this course. In this Introduction to Cosmology course, we look at some of the most interesting concepts about the universe, starting with its origins, the discovery of the ancient Greeks, and all the way to the modern day cosmology and astronomical revolutions.

Newtonian laws play a huge role in contemporary cosmology, with gravity and relativity some of the most significant foundational concepts. Other concepts discussed in detail throughout the course are Kepler’s law, Hubble’s law, energy, and spacetime. Designed for both advanced and novice students, these topics are covered at an introductory level. Further in the course, students learn about the solar system, stars, Milky Way, and galaxies.

Towards the end, Einstein’s work and its impact on astronomical studies are explored along with other phenomena as well as potential research fields such as back holes and expansion of the universe also covered. With this course, the students will find themselves learning about some of the most up to date topics in astronomical studies along with strong fundamental concepts of the subject.

Astronomers are scientists that focus their research on studying the universe. They use telescopes and satellites to observe objects in space, identify distant stars and planets, form conjectures on the physics of other planets, and monitor the movement of objects in space to detect threats to earth or satellites.
