About University of Puerto Rico-Humacao
UPRH is a public higher education institute which is a campus to the University of Puerto Rico. It traces its roots to the founding of UPR in year 1900 when it was established for teacher training and was named as Insular Normal School. Not long after in 1903 it transformed into a university under the Law of March.
After restructuring of the university that happened in the year 1966, it started to extend its physical outreach and this campus in Humacao, Puerto Rico was founded the next year in 1967. It has since grown into a comprehensive university that offers education integrated in technology, service, leadership, cultural as well as economic development.
At the campus of University of Puerto Rico-Humacao students largely find activities and opportunities that contribute to their overall growth and learning. The campus provides cultural activities which are aimed at increasing inclusivity and global recognition of cultures. Students also learn to be tolerant towards others as well as appreciate other cultures. This the university does through theatres, festivals, literary and musical events, etc. The students are also encouraged for community engagement and social work and so volunteer their time and efforts working for the welfare of the communities. This helps students in understanding service and leadership. For further student support and assistance, the campus offers Office of Quality of Life which looks at student concerns while aiming to improve campus welfare and strict obedience to campus rules. Through this it ensures healthy environment for every student. There is also the department for counselling which works to maintain student health and provide them counselling in psychological and mental problems. There are also student athletics which offer participation in intercollegiate sports. The university campus has its own mascot, ‘El Búho (Owl)’.
The Academic programs at UPRH consists of two Associate degree programs, Baccalaureate programs in six areas and five Bachelors degree programs.
