About University of Northern Colorado
UNC is a public, higher education and research institute which has its roots in the State Normal School, founded in 1889 as the state governor signed the bill. In 1890, the school opened its doors for instruction and made great progress thereon. Soon, it evolved into a state teachers college and as it expanded its program offerings, it changed into a state college.
Its transformation into a university happened in 1970 as it made further expansions in its academics. Offering a diverse set of programs and a learning-centric approach, University of Northern Colorado continues to make positive contributions to the success of its students. It is based in Greeley, Colorado.
At the campus of UNC, the students enjoy a vibrant and engaging campus life. They benefit from participating in more than 100 student-run organizations. These serve as primary forums to meet new people and discuss new ideas. A governing student body also works on campus and is open to student participation. It works to regulate student life and also serves as an excellent opportunity to be engaged in volunteer work as well as learn leadership skills. There are other similar platforms for student engagement with the campus activities and programs such as Student Senate, Appeals Board, Research Day Planning Committee and many more. Students also actively take part in arts activities happening on the campus. These include theatrical performances, music, dance and many more, happening all year round. Plenty of recreational activities also exist for the students. These include indoor and outdoor recreation and sports facilities as well as outdoor adventure trips. There are also university athletic teams called the Bears which play at NCAA Division I. The campus mascot is Klawz the Bear and the colors are Navy Blue and Gold.
Academic programs offered at UNC consist of 100+ undergraduate programs and 14+ graduate programs including Master and Doctoral programs, Certificates and more. Its prominent facilities/departments are Snyder Hall, Michener Library, Skinner Music Library, Mariani Gallery, Mari Michener Art Gallery Lawrenson Hall, Kenneth W. Monfort College of Business and more.
