About University of Colorado Denver
CU Denver is a public research higher educational institute that is part of the University of Colorado system. It officially began in the year 1912 as an Extension Centre to the University of Colorado. It soon got its permanent place and with developments over the time, it transformed into Denver Center to the parent university and finally into its present form in the year 1973.
Due to restructuring over the years, University of Colorado Denver also merged in with University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Comprising of two campuses, it offers a diverse and intellectually stimulating experience to its students and is currently based in Denver and Aurora, Colorado.
The campus life outside of academics is equally intriguing and filled with opportunities for growth. There are more than 100 student organizations and clubs working around the campus that are open for student participation and serve as a great way to meet new people and make connections. There is also the Student Government Association which represents student interests, works to improve campus life and also serves as a platform where students can take part, learn and practice their leadership skills. Students also find opportunities for civic engagement which helps them develop a broader vision for their local and global communities. Fun and activities at the campus also come in the form of various events held such as the Block Party involving food, band, games and more, film screenings, weekly backyard barbecue during the summers and more. Student support services also exist in the form of the university career center which offers workshops, guides and opportunities to find internships and jobs. Students also enjoy participating in the club sports; the official university mascot is ‘Milo (lynx)’ and the colors are Black and Gold.
The academic programs offered at the university include more than 140 Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctoral degree programs and Certificates. The notable facilities/departments are Lola & Rob Salazar Student Wellness Center, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, The Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute and more.
