University of California-Riverside About University of California-Riverside

Part of the University of California system, UC Riverside is a public research university. It was established in 1954 but the efforts to establish a campus to the University of California in the region began in the early 1940s and the bill for it was signed by the governor in 1949. Although it began with a small faculty and not many students, it now provides education and opportunities to a great many in the region.

It is based in Riverside & Palm Desert, California, and is known for its inclusivity and diversity and being focused on intellectual discovery and knowledge building of its students and the larger communities.

The University of California-Riverside presents a beautiful and vibrant atmosphere for its students. It offers more than 450 student-led organizations and clubs with a diverse range of opportunities; to take part in them, to lead them and simply the chance to meet new people. Arts, creativity and culture form a huge part of the campus life; students enjoy a huge number of arts and cultural events such as films, writing programs by best-selling authors, music festivals and concerts, dance programs etc. Besides these, there are other plenty of events and activities held around the campus all year long, which provide for entertainment as well as education. These include UCR Night, recruitment programs, Botanic garden tours, alumni events and more. The campus Botanic Gardens are well known and are thoroughly enjoyed by the students. Physical fitness and recreation also form a significant part of the student life; activities include rock climbing, dance classes, outdoor gear, aquatics etc. Students also take part in athletic through the campus teams called Highlanders; these compete at NCAA Division I. The campus mascot is the ‘Scotty Highlander’ and the official campus colors are Sky Blue and Gold.

The academic programs at the university are 101 Bachelor degree, 55 Master degree and 42 doctoral programs. Its notable facilities/departments are Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering, Carillon Bell Tower, Richard J. Heckmann International Center, Tomás Rivera Library, Raymond L. Orbach Science Library, A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management, and more
