Rutgers University-Camden Seal About Rutgers University-Camden

Rutgers is a comprehensive public institute that dates back to 1766 when it was founded as an all male institute in New Brunswick, New Jersey. It was called Queen’s College and was first given its name as ‘Rutgers’ in 1825 to honor the war veteran Colonel Henry Rutgers. It flourished into a land grant institute by 1864 and became university in year 1824.

Although it started in New Brunswick, the university has another branch based in Camden, New Jersey and which was founded as College of South Jersey in 1920s, becoming part of the university in 1950. At the campus the mission is to deliver quality academic as well as research opportunities making its students into thinkers, scholars and leaders.

Life at Rutgers University-Camden is dominated by opportunities and activities that are all about development of the complete self. Involving each student, there are more than 75 student run clubs and organisations offering new interests and platform for social as well as leadership growth. There is also active Greek life in campus. Students also get plenty of opportunities to connect with communities as they engage in service through volunteering time or being part of causes or projects such as community centers, homeless people, donations, local churches etc. Students also enjoy being creative at the campus and find plenty of opportunities to be either part of cultural and arts activities or simply be a spectator and enjoy them. The campus brings many arts performances such as theatre, visual arts, music, reading series etc. For students the central flocking destination is the ‘Campus Center’ a place where students find all the necessary resources to hang out with friends, work on a project, hold a meeting etc. The university campus also has athletic participation at NCAA Division III. Official campus color is Scarlet.

Academic programs at the Camden campus are undergraduate programs with 36 majors and 29 graduate degree programs. Its notable facilities /departments are Paul Robeson Library, Stedman Gallery, Walter K. Gordon Theater, Rutgers School of Business, Rutgers Law School and few more.
