About Prescott College
Prescott College is a private liberal arts college located in Prescott, Arizona. The college was established in 1965 by the Ford Foundation who gathered a group of educators from around the United States. The college was originally built on a 200-acre campus located outside Prescott. The college went bankrupt because of poor financial status and loss of donations. Classes were held in 1975 in the basement of the historic Hassayampa Hotel in downtown Prescott in addition to the homes of students and faculty. Afterwards, the college started acquiring the buildings of the current campus as well as acquiring the legal rights to use the name Prescott College. In 2012, the college completed $7.4 million sustainable housing project known as the Village. It is a LEED platinum facility. In the following year, the college rented one of the Village buildings to Embry-Riddle University. In 2016, the college acquired the Frantz Fanon Community Strategy Center through a student-led initiative.
The college states that its mission is to educate students from various backgrounds to understand, thrive in, and enhance the world community and environment. Prominent buidlings on campus include Garvey Welcome Center, Manzanita, Ponderosa, Crossroads Center South and North, and Prickly Pear. The college has a mountain biking team which is registered with USA cycling.
