About Nyack College
Nyack College is a private Christian college for liberal arts affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. The college was established in 1882 by Dr. A.B. Simpson under the name of “the Missionary Training Institute”. The school relocated several times before establishing in 1897 its campus in South Nyack, New York. The institute received its charter in 1944 from the New York Board of Regents. In the same year, the State Education Department registered the school’s curriculum. The institute was recognized in 1953 as a bachelor granting institute and its name was changed three years later to “Nyack Missionary College”. In 1960, the college established the the Jaffray School of Missions which became the college seminary. Nyack was accredited in 1962 by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. It joined in the following year the American Council on Education. The college gained its current name in 1972. The college expanded in 1997 by establishing a branch campus in New York City. In 2013, the college New York campus was relocated to a modern facility on Washington Street in historic Battery Park.
Nyack operates three campuses in New York City, Rockland County and Puerto Rico. Rockland campus is the main campus covering 102 acres. It offers several distinctive buildings and facilities including Boon Campus Center, Bowman Gymnasium, Moseley Hall, Bell Tower House, Bailey Library, Barney Hall, Shepherd Hall, Jaffray Hall, Sky Island Lodge, Shuman Hall and Betty Olsen House. Nyack’s athletic teams, who are nicknamed Warriors, compete in NCAA’s Division II as members of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Their official colors are gray and crimson.
The college is divided into 7 schools and colleges including Alliance Theological Seminary. It offers undergraduate programs in 41 majors, 5 master’s degree programs and a doctoral of ministry program. The college also offers educational programs for people in prison in Fishkill Correctional Facility and Sing Sing Correctional Facility through a partnership agreement with Hudson Link. The college was named as a “Great College to Work For” by the Chronicle of Higher Education.
