About Monroe College
Monroe College is a private for-profit higher education institute with its main campus in New York. The college was established by Mildred King in 1933 as a business school for women in the Bronx County in New York City. It was named Monroe School of Business in honor of the fifth President of the United States, James Monroe. In 1972, the college got official approval to grant associate degrees and accordingly it became a junior college. Five years later, all programs at the college were transferred to the Fordham Road Area. In 1990, the college received accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and its name was accordingly changed to the current one. In 2004, the college started offering online courses and started offering MBA program in the following year. In 2009, one of the college graduates files a lawsuit against it alleging that the college did not provide enough support to him to get employed. The college replied that it does provide career advising services but employment cannot be guaranteed as it depends on the socioeconomic situation. In 2012, the college received from USA Funds for its DREAM program which focuses on debt reduction and financial literacy.
The college main campus is the one located in Bronx which offers several distinctive buildings and facilities including King Hall, Jerome Hall, Ustin Hall and Monroe Hall. Monroe has several branch campuses in New Rochelle, New York and abroad in Saint Lucia. Additionally, the college owns two locations for future extension in Manhattan, and Queens. The official colors of the college are blue and gold while its mascot is called Mustangs. Its athletic teams compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association.
The college is divided into 8 schools in addition to king graduate school. It offers 27 undergraduate programs and 6 master’s degree programs.
