About Graceland University-Lamoni
Graceland University-Lamoni (GU) was established in 1895 as Grace College in Lamoni, Iowa by the RLDS Church which is currently known as Community Christ in the United States. The RLDS Church members donated the campus land to inaugurate GU. Marietta Walker, honored by naming Walker Hall after her, donated the first 20 acres in the campus land. The classes opened its doors to the students in 1895 in a building in downtown during the establishment of the administrative building. Col. George Barrett, who mopped the land for the university, was the person who chose the university’s name due to the graceful and magnificent downhill location above which the campus had been built.
