Fashion Institute of Technology About Fashion Institute of Technology

Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is a public college related to State University of New York (SUNY). Its campus is situated specifically in the  West 27th Street and surrounded by the Seventh and Eighth Avenues in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City since 1959. FIT is globally known as one of the highly reputable fashion institutes in the world. It was established in 1944  on the top two floors of the High School of Needle Trades to connect between  art, business, design, mass communication and technology from a side and fashion industry in another side. After being accredited in 1957, it moved to its current location within SUNY campus.

FIT mission is to encourage students to develop their imagination talents, profession converge, and international perspectives. In addition, it qualifies its students and trainees to achieve comprehensiveness, prospectivness, and significance of the surrounding community.

FIT is internationally recognized to be among the top 5 fashion schools in the world. It is internationally known that it is the school in which the students and the trainees along with the professors break the conventional barriers in order to promote creativity and be able to develop and create nontraditional designs and business approaches. FIT campus includes a distinguished museum that shows a huge collection that exceeds 50,000 pieces of textiles, accessories, and garments from the 18th century. It consists of three gallery halls which are The Lower Level Gallery, The Fashion and Textile History Gallery, and The Gallery FIT that contain special exhibitions, 200 artistic pieces, and student and faculty exhibition respectively.

FIT offers 29 undergraduate program degrees, 6 master program degrees, 11 non degree credit certificates, and 19 non degree non-credit certificates. FIT campus consists of 4 schools which are School of Art and Design, Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology, School of Liberal Arts and School of Graduate Studies in addition to the Center for Continuing and Professional Studies.
