About Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising

Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) is a profit organization that was founded in Los Angeles, California. Tonian Hohberg, the first and current CEO and president, achieved his dream in 1969, when he founded FIDM to offer academic programs in Digital Media, Entertainment Set Design & Decoration, Film & TV Costume Design, Footwear Design, and Menswear, International Manufacturing & Product Development, Professional Studies, and Textile Production & Development. California, the second largest focus in US, was the typical place to inaugurate such school since it is the homeland for movie stars and fashion designers. Now, FIDM has four campuses in California located in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and Orange County. FIDM campuses are characterized by possessing the modern architectural decorum of Clive Wilkinson. The main campus in Los Angeles is located near the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Grammy Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), STAPLES Center and many other entertainment focal points.

FIDM vision is to develop industry leaders in the fields of both business and design by the aid of faculty members who are industry experts. Students learn how to consolidate design studies with industry technologies to be able to develop unique authentic products in the fashion, design and media fields.

FIDM Los Angeles campus comprise the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising Museum that includes a huge combination of recent and old costume and fashion samples whose origins return back to more than 200 years ago. FIDM was the filming location of some of the most famous American TV series such as Lifetime’s Project Runway season six and Project Runway: Under the Gunn. The bachelor degree of FIDM was ranked as the 3rd among the US schools by the U.S. New and World’ Report.

FIDM offers 8 undergraduate degree programs, 8 Advanced Study Associate of Arts degree programs and 13 Associate of Arts degree programs in addition to Professional Designation Associate of Arts degree programs that range from 2 to 4 years study.
