Dine College About Dine College

DC is a two year community college that was founded in the year 1968 by the Navajo Nation, with the aim of advancement of the young individuals in their community and for them to play an active role in the world. It began as Navajo Community College and by 1976 received accreditation by the North Central Association (NCA) Commission on Institutions of Higher Education.

Dine College is the country’s first tribally-controlled community college and was also the first college founded by Native Americans and for the Native Americans and it marked a huge milestone for the Navajo community. To this day, the college is on the mission to preserving while also providing highest quality education and advancement opportunities for its youth and hence its communities.

Students, who choose DC, find a warm community of Navajo people waiting to welcome them and make them feel at home. At their first step, the students are provided with academic guidance and counselling whereby they are helped in choosing the right academic course. It is considered essential as it decides the future course for its student’s. Further assistance comes in the shape of new student orientation where students are shown around the college and introduced with the campus life. There are also career services at the college which aim for career readiness even before the student has graduated. While their time at the college, students engage with Associated Students of Diné College (ASDC), a student representation body. It supports student programs and events such as agricultural camps, Annual Wool and Mohair Buy and etc, student led clubs and organisations and also offers opportunity for students to bring their leadership skills to the table ad help others. There are also Day Care facilities at campus for parents working or studying at the college. The college’s mascot is the ‘Warrior’.

The academic programs offered are eight certificate programs, 20 Associate degree programs and six Bachelors degree programs. Some notable facilities are Deestsiin (Pinyon) Hall, Tséch’il (Oak) Hall, T’iistsoh (Cottonwood) Hall, Ndíshchíí’ (Pine) Hall, Gad (Juniper) Hall and more.
