Cornish College of the Arts Seal About Cornish College of the Arts

Cornish is a private arts institute that was founded in the year 1914 by Nellie Cornish. Cornish being a piano teacher founded the Cornish School of Music and started teaching in rented facilities. Beginning her journey alone, she was soon joined in by other professionals in the field and soon the institute took the shape of a normal school. Over the time, more and more academic disciplines were added to the curriculum including arts and with further accreditations and title grants, the school took the shape of a present day college.

It is based in Seattle, Washington, and in 1986 officially adopted its present name. Cornish College of the Arts continues to be committed to providing highest quality arts education, encouraging, fostering and shaping creativity of future artists of their communities.

At Cornish, students are never out of opportunities for learning and growth even outside of their classrooms. For fresher students, their journey begins with ‘Cornish Connection’ where they are introduced around the campus life extensively which helps them with creative integration. The students find further social integration through the student interest groups, of which more than 10 are present on campus including dance, theatre, music, workshops and others. These help with learning as well as teach teamwork and organisation. Active role on the campus is played by Cornish Student Leadership Council (CSLC) in maintaining and regulating student life on the campus. It acts like student voice, but is also involved in bringing and organising events for the students. Students further involve in leadership activities by helping new students make around the campus and campus life, as orientation leaders. Further ahead, the students are find opportunities for work study. These part time job opportunities help students gain practical experience as well as shed off their financial burden.

Cornish offers three undergraduate degrees, consisting of Bachelors and Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in nine academic disciplines consisting of Visual arts, Performing arts and, Humanities and Sciences. Its prominent facilities are Kerry Hall, Raisbeck Performance Hall, both registered with the National Register of Historic Places; Notion Building and Old Norway Hall.
