CSU–Pueblo is a public university that was founded in the year 1933 as a junior college as Southern Colorado Junior College (SCJC). By 1937, soon after its establishment, the college was renamed as Pueblo Junior College (PJC). It was in 1961 that the college was made part of the state system and hence was renamed as Southern Colorado State College (SCSC) and transformed into a four year college. In 1975, it was updated to university status and was once again renamed.

It took on its present name in 2003, as Colorado State University-Pueblo after being part of the CSU System since 1985. Located in Pueblo in Colorado, it is a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and so aims to serve a culturally and ethnically diverse student body offering educational opportunities beyond excellence, focusing on developing global competence and intellect.

The university offers an exciting campus life to its students providing every opportunity for engagement. There are student organisations and a happening Greek Life. Student engagement through these means is highly encouraged as it develops skills, allows relationship building and provides opportunities to be and serve as a leader for the students and the community at large. There is also Student Government Association which is the student representative body on campus and works towards improving the campus life, bringing opportunities. It arranges activities and events that act as social gathering and also bring entertainment as well as learning on campus. These include Speakers Series, concerts, comedy shows, movie screenings and others. There are also a range of outdoor recreation opportunities such as biking, kayaking, hiking, and others. CSU – Pueblo teams also take part in athletics at NCAA Division II. The campus colors are Blue and Red.

Academic programs offered at the university are 28 undergraduate degrees, with 52 minors, 10 graduate degree programs and 13 Pre Professional degrees. Its notable departments and facilities are Hasan School of Business, Belmont Residence Hall, Neta & Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl, Culebra Hall, Crestone Hall, and Greenhorn Hall.
