Wagner is a private liberal arts college whose origin dates back to the year 1883 when it simply began as an institute for training ministers and was called Lutheran Proseminary of Rochester. Over the time the institute grew, got renamed and was relocated; however, the transformation into a present-day educational institute happened with the start of 20th century. It added liberal arts curriculum and by 1933 opened for women students.

The college was renamed in the honor of late George Wagner, whose father became a benefactor to the institute. Based in Staten Island, New York, the college offers experiential learning, incorporating research and application in its curriculum for the growth of successful leaders and professionals.

Campus life at Wagner College is all about growth and development through a diverse range of experiences and by getting involved. There are plenty of student-run clubs; academic and business to philanthropy and publications organizations. There is also the Greek Life. Students interested in learning leadership building find their place with the Student Government Association, representing other students on campus. Leadership opportunities also exist through activities and programs such as Student Commencement Speaker Contest, working as Community Leaders working on diverse subjects such as social justice, wellness etc and helping and assisting their peers and other students. There is also Alternative Breaks and M.O.V.E. Program. Celebrating and encouraging diversity is the Center for Intercultural Advancement; it initiates and promotes learning through dialogues and education abroad. As part of its spiritual and religious offering, the campus also has its own ministry. Fun and entertainment on campus are added through the campus events that take place all year long such as Week of Welcome, Homecoming, Networking events, Etiquette Dinners and more. The college has its athletic teams called ‘Seahawks’ which participate at NCAA Division I. Its colors are Green and Gold.

As for the academic programs, these include undergraduate programs with 40+ majors and two graduate programs. Its prominent facilities include Sutter Gymnasium, Spiro Communications Center, Megerle Science Hall, Horrmann Library and few more.
