About University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
UW–Whitewater is a state higher education institute that is part of the University of Wisconsin System. It traces its beginning to the Whitewater Normal School which was founded in 1868. It took some time before the school progressed and was awarded the right to grant baccalaureate degrees becoming a teachers college and then transitioning as a state college. Later, in 1964 it became a state university.
It is located in Whitewater, Wisconsin, and has only grown over the years in preparing the students for much more than just a successful career. It understands the needs of its students for learning that goes beyond traditional boundaries, helping them grow as leaders for their communities.
For empowering and encouraging its students to work for their passion, besides quality education the university also offers an engaging campus life which brings involvement in various activities. There are more than 170 student organisations present on the campus and including Fraternities and Sororities which not only let students find their place but also serve as great leadership opportunities as students head these organisations. There is also ULead a program designed specifically for instilling leadership and also the Student Government representing student interests and giving practical leadership experience. Community service forms an important part of the student life at the university and so a portal is dedicated to finding the right kind of volunteering work for each student with university partner organisations. There are also campus organisations such as Habitat for Humanity, Student Optimists and others. The university also celebrates Make a Difference Day. The campus also has its fair share of arts and performances and also holds many entertaining events and activities throughout the year. There are also campus athletic teams called ‘Warhawks’ competing at NCAA Division III. The campus mascot is ‘Willie Warhawk’ and the official colors are Purple and White.
At the university the academic programs offered are undergraduate programs more than 215 majors, minors and emphases. The notable facilities the campus has are Andersen Library and James R. Connor University Center.
