UW–La Crosse is a four year higher education institute and a public university. It started as La Crosse State Normal School in the year 1909, with only two year programs for teachers’ education. Early on, the school started expanding its offerings by including extracurricular activities. It went through changes but it was after WWII that it established itself as the state college introducing baccalaureate programs and expanding beyond teachers’ education.

It became part of the University of Wisconsin System, when in 1971 Wisconsin State University System merged with it. Based in La Crosse, Wisconsin the university offers more than just education – inspiring its students for leadership as well as professional success through quality programs as well as engaging campus programs.

At the campus of University of Wisconsin-La Cross, students find more than 200 student run organisations which serve as a great starting point for students to find their passion and interest and pursue them through extracurricular activities besides academic fields. It also serves as a great platform for forming interpersonal and professional networks. Then there is also the Student Association which is the student governing body and serves as practical leadership development platform by giving a chance to work for student interests. There are also other leadership development programs. There is Campus Activities Board which brings many cultural and educational programs for both student learning and entertainment. Students also take part in the performing arts which brings music, arts, theatre arts and more. There is also the Student Union which is the place for students to relax and hang out with friends. For academic empowerment, studies are supported through counselling, career fairs and internships but also the undergraduate research opportunities for a more practical educational experience. The university also has its athletic teams, ‘Eagles’ participating at the NCAA Division II. The official campus colors are ‘Maroon and Grey’ and the mascot is ‘Stryker the Eagle’.

Academic programs consist of 99 undergraduate programs, 21 graduate and two doctoral programs. Its notable facilities include Maurice O. Graff Main Hall, Wittich Hall, Morris Hall, Eugene W. Murphy Library and more.
