University of Tulsa Seal About University of Tulsa

TU is a private institute and a research university which traces its roots to a female boarding school established in 1882 Muskogee, Indian Territory. The newly established Presbyterian School for Indian Girls quickly made progress and evolved into Henry Kendall College by 1894. When faced with financial troubles, it sought help from Synod of Indian Territory and relocated.

In Tulsa, Oklahoma, its present location, it merged with another newly founded institute and was made into the University of Tulsa, as the charter was approved in 1920. A non-denominational institute today, it is directed towards excellence in intellect, character formation and promotion of thinking and discovery.

The atmosphere at the campus of TU is filled with excitement and enthusiasm as students get involved around the campus in a range of activities. More than 120 student-led groups and organization run on the campus working in various fields and interests and open for student participation. There is also the student government representing student interests and looking after the student initiatives and programs. There are also the Honor Societies and all these combined not only help students socialize but instil leadership skills and interest. Students can also work as Orientation Leaders, in serving as campus representatives for the new students. New students are inducted into the campus through extensive orientation programs helping them in getting to know the people and resources on campus. Further on, students also get to enjoy student events such as speakers, Grad Party, concerts, lecture series etc and also the celebration of university traditions including Toilet Bowl, Ringing the Cupola Bell, and Carols and Lights on Sharp Plaza among others. There are also campus athletic teams Golden Hurricane playing at NCAA Division I. The campus colors are Old Gold, Royal Blue and Crimson and the mascot is the ‘Captain Cane’.

Academic programs at TU consist of 67 undergraduate, 47 graduate, and 16 doctoral programs. Its notable facilities/departments are Henry Kendall College of Arts & Sciences, Oxley College of Health Sciences, Collins College of Business, H. A. Chapman Stadium, Donald W. Reynolds Center, McFarlin Library and Mabee Legal Information Center.
