About University of Southern California
USC is a private institute and a research university. It was founded in the year 1880 through the efforts Judge Robert Maclay Widney who had advocated for it for a long time. With the land secured and the institute firmly established, the progress set in eventually through the addition of academic units over time. By 1952, the institute ended its relationship with the church.
Presently, University of Southern California has emerged as an institute offering education and research through quality programs and focus on the diverse development of its students embedded in technology and understanding of globalization. It is based in Los Angeles, California.
The campus life outside of classrooms is equally vibrant and filled with opportunities for growth and development. Students find more than 1000 student-led organizations open for participation and involvement, including campus fraternities and sororities. Arts is also celebrated and promoted among students through creative performances including drama, dance, music, cinematic arts and more. For a healthy and inclusive campus life, cultural communities work to raise awareness about diversity and develop understanding among students. The campus also has its student government associations representing concerns and regulating the campus life. These along with leadership programs such as L.E.A.D help students in further growing themselves as leaders and understanding public roles and duties. Community engagement is considered essential to human development and so students find opportunities to be part of volunteering programs. Student support services include career services/assistance, center for learning and creativity, health services and recreation. There is also participation by the students in athletics, with the teams Trojans competing at NCAA Division I. The official colors are Cardinal and Gold and the mascot is the ‘Traveler’.
Academic programs offered consist of undergraduate programs with 165+ majors, 150 minors and 400+ graduate programs. Its notable facilities/departments are Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, Doheny Library, Zumberge Hall, Von KleinSmid Center, Leavey Library, Marshall School of Business, Popovich Hall, Verna and Peter Dauterive Hall, Galen Center, Wallis Annenberg Hall and Gwynn Wilson Student Union.
