About University of California-Merced
UC Merced is a public institute and a research university that was founded not long ago, in the year 2005. It is the newest member of the University of California. Since a long time, the planning for a campus in the city was underway and in 1995 the site was finalized. Its satellite campus was established in the year 2001, followed by the groundbreaking ceremony the next year.
Official instructions at the university, based in Merced County, California, began in the year 2005. Though young, the university has upheld its standards of excellence in teaching and education, inclusiveness and dedication towards knowledge dissemination.
The University of California-Merced offers its students a campus life bustling with activities and experiences for students inside as well as outside their classrooms. The campus offers more than 200 student-run clubs and organizations; consisting of academic, cultural, recreation and more. These provide students with the opportunity to follow their passion, develop their skills, and learn leadership by running these organizations successfully. Besides taking part in them, students also organize annual events whole year round. Students also remain in arts and creative works; the university’s Arts UC Merced Presents opportunities for students to display their creative side to other students on campus. It also partners with off-campus community arts organizations in bringing arts performances to the campus. The campus is not without its recreational opportunities for the students. The recreation and wellness center offers physical training and there are also athletic teams, called ‘Golden Bobcats’. They compete at NCAA Division II. The campus mascot is ‘Bobcat’ and the official colors are Royal Blue and Gold.
As for the academic programs, they include 22 majors and 24 minors, and 14 graduate groups. Its prominent facilities/departments are Sierra Nevada Research Institute, Joseph Edward Gallo Recreation and Wellness Center, Kolligan Library and The Mainzer Theater.
