About University of California-Irvine
UC Irvine is a public institute and a research university that was founded in 1965 as a plan to have new campuses for the University of California. By 1966, the university had already granted degrees to its first batch of students. The state of Irvine was established later in 1975, where the university is situated in California and is named after James Irvine who provided the land for the university.
It is now part of the University of California (UC) system, is a land-grant university and is also a member of the Association of American Universities. For the university, the focus of its education is its students’ growth, which it serves to achieve through excellence in its programs and focus on knowledge development.
At the University of California-Irvine, education goes beyond the boundaries of the classroom. The campus serves as a learning platform offering many academic, intellectual, cultural, social, athletic, and many other opportunities. The university takes pride in its more than 200 community-engaged research and learning programs. There is also a huge focus on arts; the school of arts at the university, along with cultural, educational and civic organizations, brings artistic and creative performances all year round. The students also get to enjoy many other university events such as workshops, exhibitions, tours and recreational events. The university also offers Youth camps dedicated and specially designed for children, aimed at providing a rich educational experience; covering academics, arts, recreation and more. The university is also known for its clinical trials which are conducted by experienced researchers and physicians. The campus spirit is enlivened by the athletic participation and competition of the university teams, called ‘Anteaters’ at NCAA Division I. The campus mascot is the ‘Peter the Anteater’ and the colors are UCI Blue and Gold.
At the university, the academic offerings consist of 92 bachelors, 62 masters, and 68 doctoral programs. Its prominent facilities/departments are Claire Trevor School of the Arts, Murray Krieger Hall, Aldrich Hall, Jack Langson Library, Paul Merage School of Business, Henry Samueli School of Engineering and more.
