About University of California-Davis
UC Davis is a public institute and a research university and is also part of the University of California (UC) system. This university system campus has its history in the founding of a farm school for the University of California in 1905, from the efforts and vision of Peter J. Shields, secretary of the State Agricultural Society. It opened for instructions in 1908.
Over the years, it added two-year and then four-year programs and as further schools and advanced programs were added to it, it took its present shape. Today, the university is a place for minds that are willing to take up the challenges, solve problems, and intellectual discovery.
The campus life provided at the University of California-Davis is engaging, with opportunities for those looking for growth and development. The campus offers more than 800 student-run groups and clubs based on various academic as well as non-academic interests and which serve as platforms for students to develop interest outside of classrooms and meet new people around the campus. There are also 70 fraternities and sororities. To promote inclusiveness, there are also ethnic and cultural organizations that organize events celebrating the different cultures. The campus also has its Student Government representing student interests and also serves as a platform where students can develop their leadership skills by working on real-world problems. Community engagement is also a significant part of student life at the campus, with students as well as faculty and staff volunteering time each year. The university is also dedicated to sustainable causes and proudly hails its ‘boidigester’ which turns waste into energy. The campus celebrates its traditions such as ‘Picnic Day’, kissing ‘Bookhead’, ‘Powwow’, ‘Pajamarino and Homecoming’ and others. The students also take part in athletics with university teams called Aggies competing at NCAA Division I. The university mascot is ‘Gunrock the Mustang’ and the official colors are Aggie Blue and Gold.
The academic programs offered at the university consist of 102 undergraduate majors, 96 graduate programs. Its notable facilities are Mondavi Center, Shields Library, Mrak Hall, Hutchison Hall and few more.
