About University of Arizona
UA is a public research higher education institute which traces its beginning to when it was chartered as a university by the legislature in the year 1885. It was founded under the Morrill Land-Grant Act of 1862. With the site for the institute selected, it initially began as a normal school. It eventually made progress in its academic offerings while also expanding its physical outreach.
The present day University of Arizona is based in Tucson, Arizona and is part of the Association of American Universities. The university is engaged in research, intellectual discovery, knowledge exchange and hence putting its students on the way of success and global leadership.
Student life at UA is diverse and consists of extracurricular activities that help students in grow in more than a single field. At the campus students have a central activity space called the Student Union providing game rooms, space for events and meetings, or simply serving as a place for hanging out with friends. Leadership opportunities exist through range of student run cubs and organisations, the student Government, the Blue Chip program and the Greek Life. All these serve as social platforms, providing leadership awareness and experience and also as active campus involvement. The campus also holds many cultural, recreational, academic as well as social events all year round and some traditional ones are Family Weekend, Homecoming, Spring Fling, exhibits in galleries and museums etc. There are also performing arts events such as concerts, dance, theatre productions, poetry workshops and others. The campus also offers career development and success programs training students for gainful employment. There is also campus athletic participation at NCAA division I. The teams are called ‘Wildcats’, the mascot is ‘Wilbur and Wilma Wildcat’ and the official colors are Cardinal Red and Navy Blue.
Academic programs at UA are 129 Bachelors, 137 Masters and, 94 Doctoral degrees programs, four specialist and three Professional practice programs. Its prominent facilities/departments are Zuckerman College of Public Health, Eller Graduate School of Management, James E. Rogers College of Law, Harvill Lecture Hall, Yuma Hall, Stevie Eller Dance Theater, McKale Memorial Center and others.
