University of Antelope Valley Seal About University of Antelope Valley

The University of Antelope Valley is a private, for profit institute of higher education. The university was established in 1997 by the retired firefighter and paramedic Macro Johnson and his wife Sandra. They noticed the huge number of unnecessary death that could be helped easily by teaching people CPR and First Aid. This service was developed rapidly to become CPR and first Aid company. The institute was called Antelope Valley Medical College to satisfy the needs of the community by teaching other courses. Six month later, they got approval from state of California and county of Los Angeles to give training in Emergency Medical Technology. In 1999, the college campus expanded from 500 ft2 to 45,000 ft2 to become a high-tech training facility. In 2003, AVMC started Paramedic program. Six years later, the college received the approval to award baccalaureate, Masters and associate degrees achieving the university status. Accordingly, its name was changed to the current name. In 2010, the campus had its major expansion to reach 250,000 ft2. The university also started offering night and online programs.

The university states that its mission is to provide high quality educations to students to support the local and global community. UAV campus is located in Lancaster, California. Antelope Valley athletic teams compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics as members of the California Pacific Conference. Their mascot is called Pioneers.

The college offers five associate, eight baccalaureate degree and three master’s degree programs. The college is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education, and Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. UAV supported their alumni by offering to pay 2000$ to employers that hired their graduates.
