About SUNY Polytechnic Institute
SUNY Poly is a public research institute and part of the State University of New York. It came into existence in year 2014 and was formed with the merger of two different SUNY institutes: SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) in Albany and the SUNY Institute of Technology (SUNYIT) in Utica. It traces its roots to year 1966.
The college is based in two different locations: Albany and Marcy, in New York and is recognized for its technical education. Investing millions into the research, the college operates Smart Cities Technology Innovation Center (SCiTI), Smart System Technology and Commercialization Center (STC), Computer Chip Commercialization Center (Quad-C) and many others.
Offering a supportive and enthusiastic environment at the campus of SUNY Polytechnic Institute, students engage in more than 30 student led clubs and organisations. These serve as the most primary units for extracurricular activities as well as learning outside of the classrooms. For further engagement and social integration within the campus, students organise and arrange cultural, social, recreational, performing arts and other activities through Poly Promotions Board (P2B), organising campus wide events. There is also the Student Government, the student representation body and which helps develop leadership skills and knowledge through active participation. The campus also holds professional development activities. Two of the traditional annual events held at the campus are Orientation and the Open House. For physical development of its students, there are fitness activities as well as intramurals with students also taking part in athletic programs at NCAA Division III. The campus teams are called ‘Wildcats’ and the official colors are Blue, White and Gold.
As for its academic offerings, SUNY Poly has 20 Undergraduate programs, 17 Masters degree programs, six Certificates and three accelerated programs. Its notable facilities are Cayan Library, Adirondack Residence Hall, Mohawk Residence Hall and Oriskany Residence Hall.
