Alfred State is a public higher education institute that traces its history to a teachers college that was founded earlier as Alfred Select School. As education improved and progress was made, by 1908 the New York State School of Agriculture came to be located at the campus of Alfred University. In year 1941 it turned into a junior college and by 1948 as the institute needed expansion, it was once again relocated to its present day campus.

Presently a senior college, it is part of the State University of New York system and is based in Alfred, Allegany County, New York. With its rigorous curriculum and experiential learning platform, the students are sure to make as successful professionals as well as empowered members of their societies.

Life at the campus of SUNY College of Technology at Alfred offers a balanced approach to learning and development, providing many extracurricular activities to help students grow. The campus offers more than 100 student led clubs and organisations which serve as social platforms and a friendly learning spaces. There is also Greek Life on campus. In addition to these, there is also the Student Leadership center, which teaches students the skills and qualities for serving as leaders. Participation in these programs as well as student clubs provides students with hands on experience for leadership. Additional to campus life is also the civic engagement, which lets students contribute positively to the welfare of their off campus community. Some community engagement events include Alternative Breaks, Annual Race for a Cure, Community Involvement Fair, Disaster Relief Trips, Earth Week and many others. Through events and activities, the campus also aims to bring diversified and multicultural groups for creating awareness and improving perspectives. The college also offers athletic opportunities at NCAA Division III, with campus teams called ‘Pioneers’. The official campus colors are Blue and Gold.

Academic programs offered at Alfred State consist of undergraduate programs: 25+ Bachelors degree programs, 45+ Associate degree programs, 16 minors, and seven online programs. Its notable facilities are Orvis Activities Center and Hinkle Memorial Library.
