Oswego is a public higher education institute that was founded in year 1861 as a teacher training institute. It was the vision of Edward Austin Sheldon and his unique teaching methods which incorporated and gave rise to the Oswego Primary Teachers’ Training School. It wasn’t until year 1942 that it transformed into a degree awarding institute.

By 1948 the institute became part of the State University of New York system. Based in Oswego, New York, the present day college offers engaged learning experience through its liberal arts curriculum, transforming its students into successful professionals as well as positively contributing members of their communities.

The campus at SUNY College at Oswego offers a vibrant and unique environment involving students in learning both inside and outside the classroom. As students enter the college, they are introduced around the campus life through extensive orientation programs and first year educational programs such as FirstChoice, First-Year Residential Experience and First-Year Advisement. At the campus, there are also around 200 student led clubs and organisations providing students with opportunities to pursue their interests as well as form lasting relationship through social friendly activities. There are many other activities and events too which help student in being engaged with the community such as the Student Involvement Fair, Family and Friends Weekend and also multicultural programs. There is also the Student Association which is supported by the learning center called ‘The Point’ which serves as the hub of student activities. Recreation for the students exists in the form of club sports, intramurals, outdoor trips and athletics. The campus team are called ‘Lakers’ competing at NCAA Division III. The official campus colors are Hunter Green and Golden Yellow.

Academic programs at Oswego consist of over 110 programs including undergraduate majors and minors, and graduate programs including Masters programs. Its notable facilities include Penfield Library, Sheldon Hall, Marano Campus Center Complex, Tyler Art Gallery, Shineman Center, Riggs and Johnson Halls and more.
