Old Westbury is a public higher education institute which is part of the State University of New York system. It traces its beginning to the year 1965 when it was chartered by Samuel B. Gould, the then Chancellor. The college began its instruction later in 1968 and within some years faced closure until it reopened in year 1971 and moved to its present location.

This liberal arts college is based in Old Westbury, New York and is aimed at providing excellence in education through rigorous curriculum developing leadership and scholarship. The students develop critical thinking and foster creative thinking for both, personal and professional success.

The students at SUNY College at Old Westbury enjoy every resource and activity that helps student upliftment and a well rounded growth. Student run clubs and organisations are allowed on campus and with more than 60 available on campus where students get to pursue their interests in a social backdrop. There are also leadership activities whereby students are educated and trained through the ‘Leadership Development Certificate Program’ and also get the chance to effectively use their skills for student representation through Student Government Association. The SGA also works actively to arrange many student events and activities throughout the year. Extracurricular activities and student resources also exist in the form of fraternity and sorority life, campus media, community learning, counselling and career development. The campus also offers ‘Engaged Learning Programs’ which helps students with community and global engagement. Students also take part in the creative culture through performing arts acts. Student athletic teams called ‘Old West’ compete at NCAA Division III. The campus mascot is ‘OWWIN the Panther’ and the colors are Green and Ivory.

Academic programs at Old Westbury consist of 45 undergraduate majors and degree programs and 15 graduate degree programs through four academic schools in arts, sciences, business, education and professional studies.
