SUNY College at Cortland Seal About SUNY College at Cortland

SUNY Cortland is a public institute and is a campus of State University of New York. The institute was established in year 1868 as Cortland Normal School, with instructions beginning the next year. With start of 20th century, the school introduced education and programs beyond high school and by 1938 introduced four year programs. It became a teachers college in year 1941.

It became part of SUNY in year 1948 and got its present name in year 1961. It is based in Cortland, New York and offers an inclusive community of faculty and students dedicated towards excellence in education, in learning scholarship and developing meaningful future for themselves and their communities.

At the campus of SUNY College at Cortland the students find involvement in variety of activities, all of which are focused on intellectual, cultural and professional growth of students. Supporting student activities and voicing student concerns is the Student Government Association. With SGA, students find the opportunity to work as leaders and hence develop skills and qualities to serve the people. Furthermore, activities and engagement exist in the form of more than 70 student led clubs and organisations covering a huge range of interests. Through these, students develop skills outside of classrooms in a friendly environment. Students also take active part in serving their off campus community. They volunteer their hours by working with local organisations such as Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army Center, Emergency Medical Service crew and others. Students are also part of social advocacy and activism as well as service learning trips and programs. There are also intramural sports as well as athletics, with teams ‘Red Dragons’ competing at NCAA Division III. The official campus colors are Red and White and the mascot is ‘Blaze’.

Academic programs offered are SUNY Cortland undergraduate programs with 64 majors, 27 Masters degree programs and five certificate programs. Its prominent facilities are Miller Building, Dowd Fine Arts Center, Sperry Center, Winchell Hall, Alger Hall, Clark Hall, Robert C. Brauer Memorial Education Center, Higgins Hall and many more.
