SUNY Buffalo State About SUNY Buffalo State

Buffalo State is a public four year college and part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. It began as Buffalo Normal School, a teacher training institute in year 1871 and within sometime started to go beyond teacher training. Further ahead, it added four year degree programs and by 1945 started to offer Masters degree programs.

It further expanded its curriculum across science disciplines and also became the first institute in SUNY system to be offering study abroad programs. With its excellence in education and its expert faculty, the college strives for lifelong learning that enables personal and professional achievement. It is based in Buffalo, New York.

The campus at State University of New York Buffalo State offers a balanced life empowering students to pursue their passion and interests both inside and outside classrooms. On campus, students find more than 100 student led organisations and clubs offering a huge variety of interests, it also offers Greek Life which in addition of United Students Governments helps students learn leadership skills. The USG holds meeting and conferences, sponsors programs and events, and also serve as representation of student interests. Extracurricular activities also include community engagement activities which such as involvement with the local, national and global communities. This includes partnering with Carnegie Foundation to enjoin students in service learning and community service, Center for Excellence in Urban and Rural Education serving the needs of disadvantaged students, and also volunteering activities and service programs arranged through the Civic and Community Engagement Office. Students also enjoy sports and athletics as the campus teams, ‘Bengals’ take part at NCAA Division III. The campus colors are Burnt Orange, Black, and Cool Gray and the mascot is ‘Benji the Bengal’.

The academic programs offered at Buffalo State consist of 181 undergraduate programs and 64 graduate programs. Its notable facilities are Burchfield Penney Art Center, Rockwell Hall, E. H. Butler Library, Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Bulger Communication Center and Campbell Student Union.
