Southern New Hampshire University About Southern New Hampshire University

SNHU is a private but also a non profit higher education institute that started in 1932 as a training institute offering education and training in accounting methods.  It was called New Hampshire School of Accounting and Secretarial Science. It got incorporated in 1961 and with it was renamed. It progressed in its academic programs and soon started awarding Associate and Bachelor’s degrees in 1963 and 1966 respectively.

Soon after, it turned into a non profit institute. It went through transformations finally coming to its present name and shape in year 2001. The university offers its students professional education which is incorporated with latest development in the industry as well as the technology.

The campus life is at the Southern New Hampshire University is small yet comprehensive, covering and focusing not just academic development but also physical, emotional and social development of its students. The campus offers more than 60 student organised clubs and groups that serve as a healthy space for learning of skills and adding to their achievements. There is also a Center for Community Engaged Learning which encourages students to break the silos and get engaged around the campus as well as off campus, learning about the communities and being involved in working for them. This instills in students awareness for civic responsibility but also helps learn leadership work. There are also special activities which add to the students’ leadership skills; these programs include Advisor Training, Fall Leadership Conference, Spring Transition Summit etc. There is also campus ministry which looks after the religious and spiritual needs of the students. The university also offers recreation activities to the students and also has its athletic teams called ‘Penmen’ which compete at NCAA Division II. The campus mascot is ‘Petey Penmen’ and the official colors are Blue and Gold.

Academic programs at SNHU consist of four Associate, 60+ Bachelors, 35+ graduate programs including Masters, two Doctoral programs and 15+ Certificate programs. It also offers online programs.  Its notable facilities/departments are Shapiro Library, Wolak Learning Center and Robert Frost Hall.
