Peninsula College Seal About Peninsula College

Peninsula College is a community based open access college located in Port Angeles, Washington. The college is part of the Washington Community and Technical Colleges system. The college was established by a group of local citizens in 1961 who aimed at studying at a local college without having to travel away. Classes were initially held at a small building on the campus of Port Angeles High School. The college service district extends from the Pacific Ocean at Neah Bay to Brinnon on Hood Canal. Construction of a permanent campus started 3 years later as the number of enrolled students became larger than the original building can accommodate. Classes started at the new campus in the following while offering additional classes across the service district.

The college aims at providing educational opportunities in the field of academic transfer, professional and technical skills, and continuing education. The college also participates in the cultural and economic enrichment of the surrounding community in Clallam and Jefferson Counties. The college main campus, Port Angeles campus, covers 75 acres. The campus contains 15 buildings including Cornaby Center, Maier Hall, Pirate Union Building, Longhouse, Keegan Hall and Sigmar field. Additionally, the college operates a branch campus at Forks which is located 57 miles away from the main campus. The college also has two locations in East Jefferson County in historic Fort Worden in Port Townsend and the Jefferson Education Center in Port Hadlock. The college athletic teams, who are nicknamed the Pirates, compete in the Northwest Athletic Conference.

The college is divided into 11 academic departments. It offers 22 professional technical programs and a bachelor degree program in addition to International Students Programs, Native/Tribal programs and honors program. It grants associate and bachelor degrees. The college has several partnerships with universities offering undergraduate programs for students from North Olympic Peninsula.
