Pasco-Hernando State College Seal About Pasco-Hernando State College

Pasco-Hernando State College is a public four-year college located in Pasco and Hernando Counties, Florida. The college was established in 1967 by the Florida State Legislature under the name of Pasco-Hernando Community College. In 1972, Dr. Milton O. Jones who was the dean of St. Petersburg Junior College was selected as the first president for the college. Soon after establishment of the college, a 100-acre piece of land was purchased at the cost of $125,000 to establish its first campus which is currently known as the east campus. The campus was dedicated in 1975 by Florida Gov. Reuben Askew. The West Campus was established 2 years later on a 140-acre piece of land in New Port Richey donated by rancher Alric C.T. Pottberg. In the same year, the college purchased 100 acres in Brooksville to establish the North Campus. In 1979, the college opened the Spring Hill Center to serve western and central Hernando. The center was closed in 2010 with the opening of the Spring Hill Campus. In 2014, the college opened its 5th campus on a real estate in southeast Pasco County that was donated by the Porter family. In the same year, the College’s District Board of Trustees voted to change the name of the college to the current one.

The West campus is the oldest and currently the largest campus for the college. It offer several important buildings and facilities including Alric Pottberg Library, Anne F. Bucy Classroom Building, Rose & Leonard Case Building, Morton Plant North Bay Hospital Simulation Laboratory and Rao Musunuru, M.D. Art Gallery. The college athletic teams are members of the National Junior College Athletic Association and the Florida College System Activities Association. Their official mascot is called Bobcats.

The college offers 32 academic programs in 7 areas of study. It grants associate and bachelor degrees in addition to technical or college credit transfer programs.
