Pacific Union College Seal About Pacific Union College

Pacific Union College is a private coeducational residential college located in Napa Valley, California. The college was established by the Adventist Church in 1882 in northern Sonoma County under the name of Healdsburg Academy. In 1909 the college relocated to its current location in Angwin, Napa County. The college purchased the 1,636-acre Angwin Resort for $60,000. The location is known for its beautiful rural scenery, overlooking California’s Napa Valley wine country. In 1932, the college received denominational accreditation from the Accrediting Association of Seventh-day Adventist Schools. In the following year, the college received accreditation from the Northwest Association of Secondary and Higher Schools making it the first higher education institute affiliated with the Adventist Church to gain regional accreditation. In 1954, the college started international partnership when it became affiliated with Avondale College in Australia. In 2006, the college decided not to change its name to a university and remain as a college. In the same year, the college announced a plan to increase its financial resources by selling part of the land it owns and to develop 591 residential units on part of it. The number of units was reduced later to 391 before cancelling the whole plan in 2010. Four years later, the college received $2.4 million as an unrestricted donation.

Pacific Union campus covers 150 acres of a total area of 1,900 acres owned by the college. It offers several distinctive buildings and facilities including Sabbath School Rooms, Pacific Auditorium, Chan Shun Hall, Davidian Hall, Rasmussen Art Gallery, Newton Hall, Grainger Hall, Clark Hall, Irwin Hall, Ambs Hall, Graf Hall, Andre Hall, Discoveryland Children’s Center and Virgil O. Parrett Field. Additionally, the college operates several off-campus locations including Albion Field Station and Angwin-Parrett Field. The unoccupied part of the land owned by the college is known as back40 and includes an extensive network of trails.

The college is divided into 20 academic departments offering more than 70 undergraduate programs and one master’s program. Pacific Union has been ranked by the U.S. News and World Report among the Top Tier Schools for 17 consecutive years.
