Oklahoma State University Seal About Oklahoma State University

OSU is a public institute and a land grant and sun grant university which was originally founded in 1890 under the Morrill Act of 1862. It was established as the Oklahoma Territorial Agricultural and Mechanical (A&M) College and held its first class a year later in 1891. Entering 20th century, the college expanded the campus while also making additions to its curriculum.

As it did, it came to be known as Oklahoma State University, renamed by the Oklahoma Legislature. Based in Stillwater, Oklahoma, it is the flagship campus with five other branch campuses. Overtime, the university has made advancements in knowledge and research, committing to excellence, diversity and a strong sense of community purpose.

Campus life at OSU is a rich with experiences, facilitating acceptance of diversity and perspectives. It is not only about research and academics but brings a huge range of extracurricular activities as well. There are leadership opportunities available which formally train and equip students will skills through Leadership Council, Leadership Minor, Camp Cowboy or others. There are also 400+ student led organisations including the Student Government and the Student Union Activities Board where the students get to practice their leadership skills and work for improvement of campus life. There are also fraternities and sororities. Additional student support services exist in the form of career services, academic assistance, tutoring and others. There is also civic engagement and volunteering opportunities by working for non profits, schools, medical service providers and others. For entertainment, the campus celebrates arts through fine arts and performing arts activities; there are also other student events held such as Miss OSU, Fanfare of Lights, Summer on the Plaza etc. Students also participate in athletics at NCAA Division I. The teams are called ‘Cowboys & Cowgirls’, the official mascot is ‘Pistol Pete’ and the colors are Orange and Black.

The academic programs at OSU consist of over 200 undergraduate and graduate degree programs and its notable facilities are Morrill Hall, Murray Hall, Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products, Colvin Center, Cordell Hall and others.
