Northwest University Seal About Northwest University

Northwest University is a private non-profit Christian higher education institute of liberal arts. Establishment of the university started in 1928 following a decision by the annual meeting of the Northwest District Council of the Assemblies of God. The idea was finally approved by council members from all of the states in the District five years later. The university started offering classes in 1934 as a bible college under the name of Northwest Bible Institute. In 1949, the college president resigned as a result of the political stress that faced the Seattle area. Five months later, the institute changed its name to Northwest Bible College after choosing Charles Butterfield as its new president. In 1952, the college was granted full accreditation from the Association of Bible Colleges. At the same time, the college was recognized by the United States Department of Education as a higher education school. In 1958, the college received 22-acre piece of land as a donation from the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. The college expanded the land by purchasing 12 additional acres. In 1959, classes started on the branch campus. In 1984, the college decided to rent 12 acres adjacent to the campus to the Seattle Seahawks team for 20 years. In 2004, the board of directors voted to change the name of the college to its current name. Four years later, Salem Bible College merged into the university and was named Salem Bible College of Northwest University.

The university main campus is located in Kirkland, Washington covering 56 acres. It offers several distinctive buildings and facilities including Davis Building, Gray Residence Hall, Beatty Residence Hall, Northwest Dining Hall, Crowder Residence Hall, Guy Residence Hall, Perks Residence Hall and Greeley Center. The university athletic teams, who are nicknamed the Eagles, compete in the Cascade Collegiate Conference as members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The official colors of the university are blue and gold.

Northwest is divided into 7 colleges and schools including the Mark and Huldah Buntain School of Nursing. It offers more than 50 bachelor degree, 8 master’s degree and 3 doctoral programs.
