New York Film Academy Seal About New York Film Academy

New York Film Academy (NYFA) is a for-profit private higher education institute. The academy was established in 1992 by Jerry Sherlock. The academy was initially operating at the Tribeca Film Center before moving to the former Tammany Hall building in Union Square. In 2007, the college started a partnership agreement with NBC News to offer broadcast journalism program. The agreement expired three years later, however, the academy continued to offer the program. Starting the same year, the academy started several partnerships with major art institutes and museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum and Whitney Museum to organize film making and cultural initiatives to youth. The academy relocated again in 2015 to its current location in Battery Place, New York City, New York.

The academy states that its mission is to provide intensive education by practical training to propagate visual literacy and visual storytelling. The academy operates three campuses in New York City, New York, Burbank, California and Miami Beach, Florida. The New York campus consists of two buildings, headquarters in Battery Place and another building in the Financial District. Additionally, the academy operates several satellite locations around the world which offers workshops and summer programs. Distinctive locations include Gold Coast, Australia, Walt Disney World Resort, Florida, Aljazeera Media Training and Development Center, Doha, Qatar and Harvard University.

The academy offers academic programs in 14 different fields in addition to ESL programs. It grants bachelor, masters and associate degrees of arts and fine arts. The academy is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. The academy tries to attract faculty members of who are participating actively in the film making and games industry or those who are teaching at related prestigious institutes. Prominent faculty members include director Claude Kerven, game designer Chris Swain, actress Lynda Goodfriend and game designer Chris Swain.
