New Hampshire Institute of Art About New Hampshire Institute of Art

New Hampshire Institute of Art is a private non-profit higher education institute that offers educational programs focusing on creative arts. The school was established in 1898 under the name of “Manchester Institute of Arts and Sciences”. It aimed at stimulating more educational and research efforts focusing on history, literature and industrial institutes. The institute operated in temporary locations till 1918 when it constructed its first temporary building. The building was named French Hall in honor of the institute supporter, Mrs. Emma Blood French. In 1924, the institute was recognized by the New Hampshire State Board of Education as a four-year institute offering arts education program. In 1997, the college name was changed to the current one and the institute was authorized to offer Bachelor of Arts degree. In 2007, John Teti who was a collector and philanthropist donated more than 2,000 rare photographic books to the college including Alfred Stieglitz’s Camera Work. Five years later, the college witnessed significant expansion in student enrollment as it received more than 80% of the students from the closed Chester College of New England. In the same year, New Hampshire signed a merge agreement with the Sharon Arts Center. In 2016, the college joined partnership with the University of New Hampshire at Manchester allowing students to attend courses at any of the two institutes without having to pay additional fees.

The college campus is located in Manchester, New Hampshire composed of 11 buildings within the Manchester Cultural District which includes several arts and cultural institutes. Prominent buildings on campus include Fuller Hall which is named in honor of Mary Fuller Russell, Williams Hall and Gallery which was purchased in 2005 and renovated before being opened in the following year. Other important buildings include French Hall, Lowell Hall and Sharon Arts Center.

The college offers 10 bachelor degree programs including a dual degree program. Additionally, it offers 5 master’s degree programs. New Hampshire is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
