About National University
National University (NU) is a higher education institute located in San Diego, California. It was established in 1971 by retired United States Navy lieutenant commander, David Chigos. The college aimed at providing non-traditional education of high demand programs for adult working students. The first class started in the following year with 27 students. In 1975, the college expanded by purchasing two properties in Mission Valley. Two years later, the college expanded further by opening additional branches in Kearny Mesa and San Diego County. In 1979, the college purchased the Cabrillo Pacific College of Law. In 1988, Chigos left his position as the school president after establishing 35 campuses. Three years later, the school of law was terminated. In 1996, the college started offering online degree programs after its headquarter was relocated from Mission Valley to La Jolla. In 2001, the National University System was established based on a decision from the College Board of trustees. In 2006, the university received an Emmy award for its advertisement entitled “One University”.
The University has 47 campuses most of them located in California with few locations in New Mexico and Washington States. Its headquarters is located in San Diego. Several programs are also offered online. The official colors of the university are blue and light gray.
National University aims at providing education mainly to adult working students. It offers concentrated programs that are normally 4 weeks long. Most of the on-campus classes are held in the evening or during the weekends. The university is divided into 2 colleges and 4 professional schools including Sanford School of Education. It offers more than 130 undergraduate and graduate programs in addition to 23 certificate programs. The university is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
