Monmouth University Seal About Monmouth University

Monmouth University is a private higher education institute located in West Long Branch, Monmouth County, New Jersey. The university was established in 1933 and was initially named Monmouth Junior College. The name was changed in 1956 to Monmouth College before being changed again in 1995 to its current name after being recognized as university.

Monmouth University states that its mission is to prepare the students to achieve the maximum of their potentials and become leaders in the world. The university has a suburban campus covering 159 acres. Among the prominent buildings on campus is Wilson Hall which is considered the campus centerpiece. It was formerly the site for Shadow Lawn mansion where President Woodrow Wilson stayed in the summer of 2016. The building was destroyed by fire in 1927 and was replaced a residence for Mr & Mrs. Hubert Templeton Parson which was purchased by the college during the Great Depression. The current university library building includes the former Murry and Leonie Guggenheim mansion and is accordingly named in their honor. Wilson Hall and the library are currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Other distinctive facilities include Lauren K. Woods Theater. The campus also offers 16 residential halls to the students including Beechwood Hall, Cedar Hall, University Bluffs, Oakwood Hall, Pinewood Hall and Spruce Hall. The official colors of the university are midnight blue and white. Its athletic teams, who are nicknamed Monmouth Hawks, compete in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference as members of NCAA Division I.

The university is divided into 7 schools including Wayne D. McMurray School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Leon Hess Business School, Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies and an honors school. It offers 26 undergraduate and 20 graduate programs. the university operates 5 Centers of Distinction including Monmouth University Polling Institute and Kislak Real Estate Institute.
