Mercy College Seal About Mercy College

Mercy College is a private non-profit coeducational research university. It was established in 1950 by the Sisters of Mercy. It became a four-year college granting baccalaureate degrees eleven years later. In 1968, the college was accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. In 1981, the college started offering its first graduate program in nursing and it offered its first doctoral degree program 25 years.

Mercy college main campus is located in Dobbs Ferry, New York covering 66 acres on the bank of the Hudson River. the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail runs through the campus which allows space to the students for sports as jogging, cycling or running. The campus offers several distinctive buildings and facilities as Founders Hall, Gratia Maher Hall, Hudson Hall, Mahoney Hall, Mercy Hall, Verrazzano Hall, Victory Hall, Turf Field and Victory Gym.  The college also operates several other locations in Manhattan, Bronx and Yorktown Heights. The latter was purchased and renovated before being used by the college in 1979. The college operates 4 libraries distributed to its various locations. The library in Yorktown is considered a federal depository for government publications. The official colors of the college are blue and white. Its athletic teams, who are nicknamed Mavericks, compete in NCAA Division II – ECC. The college publishes its own newspaper called the Impact which is also published online.

The college is divided into 5 schools offering 124 undergraduate and graduate programs granting bachelor, masters and doctoral degrees. There are also several certificate programs. Some courses and whole programs are also offered online. The college is considered as a research institute with several prominent research projects. These include “the Race to the Top” competition for which the school of education received the largest grant. In 2017, the college received a grant at a value of several million dollars from the National Science Foundation.
