Mercy College of Health Sciences About Mercy College of Health Sciences

Mercy College of Health Sciences is a higher education institute offering studies in the medical field. It was established in 1893 by three sisters from Mercy Hospital who established a hospital in Des Moines, Iowa followed by establishment of the school 6 years later under the name of the Mercy Hospital Training School providing education to nurses. Its first class graduated in 1901 which consisted of 7 students. In 1994, the college was renamed Mercy Schools of Nursing, Radiology and Emergency Medical Services indicating expansion of its educational programs. The name was changed again in the following year. The college has partnership agreements with Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, Mercy Health Network and Catholic Health Initiatives.

Mercy college states that its mission is to prepare students to become servants and leaders in the field of health care by providing comprehensive education that include its core values, science and liberal arts. The college campus is located in downtown Des Moines, Iowa offering several distinctive buildings and facilities as Mercy Child Development Center, Sullivan Center and Crocker Building.

Mercy College offers six bachelor degree programs, 7 associate degree programs in addition to certificate degree programs. It is accredited by the Higher Education Commission.
