Marian is a private liberal arts university that had its beginning as Marian College of Fond du Lac when it was founded in year 1936 by the founders, Sisters of St. Agnes. Within a few years, the college gained accreditation for granting Bachelors degree in elementary education. It did not become a coeducational institute until in year 1970.

It started offering graduate degrees and by 2008 was renamed as the Marian University. Maintaining its affiliation with The Catholic University of America since 1947, and with Catholic traditions, the university aims to impact knowledge and skills that not only prepare for a future but also add value to the lives of its students who then serve as leaders for their people. It is based in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

At the campus of Marian, the students find every resource that helps them in developing skills, participate in extracurricular activities but also remain focused on their goals. Service Learning is an important activity at the campus, where students get involved in serving the community of Fond du Lac. This aspect of extracurricular activity is where students learn responsibility, leadership and also teamwork by collaborating with other students for a cause. The students find opportunities to increase their knowledge and learn skills in their areas of interest as well as develop new interests by participating in student led organisations consisting of religious, social, professional, and more. There are activities and events organised for student enjoyment and which further act as social stimulus for students. Some traditional events held include Christmas Celebration, Family Day, Marian Celebration and others. The campus also offers Career Services which helps students prepare and find opportunities for future growth. The university also has its athletics called ‘The Sabres’ which compete at NCAA Division II. Its official colors are Blue and White and the mascot is ‘Sammy the Sabre’.

The academic programs offered consist of undergraduate programs with 40+ majors and 44 minors, 10 Masters degree programs, three Doctoral programs, along with certifications, licensures and online programs. The notable facilities are Dorcas Chapel, Stayer Center and Cardinal Meyer Library.
