Manhattan College Seal About Manhattan College

Manhattan College is a private Roman Catholic institute for liberal arts. It was established in 1853 by the Brothers of the Christian Schools as a college for men. The college was officially recognized by a charter from the New York State Board of Regents under the name of the Academy of the Holy Infancy. The college relocated in 1922 from Manhattan to its current location in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. The college had a pairing agreement with the College of Mount Saint Vincent and it became coeducational in the following year. In 2008, the agreement with the College of Mount Saint Vincent was terminated.

The college campus covers 22 acres divided into a south and north campus. The focal point of the North campus is called “the Quad” which surrounded by the two main academic buildings; Miguel Hall and De La Salle Hall. Another building surrounding the Quad is the chapel which contains Smith Auditorium and the Chapel of De La Salle and His Brothers. Students’ buildings include Thomas Hall and Kelly Commons.  Other distinctive facilities on campus are The O’Malley Library, Hayden Hall and Leo Engineering Building. The official colors of the college are Kelly green and white. Its athletic teams, who are nicknamed Jaspers, compete in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

The college is divided into 5 schools offering more than 60 programs in addition to 27 graduate programs. Manhattan College has been ranked among top 20 institute in the North region by U.S. News & World Report and Payscale.com.
