About Le Moyne College
Le Moyne College is a private Jesuit college located in Syracuse. The college was established by the Society of Jesus in 1946 and was the first Jesuit College to be established as a coeducational institute.
Moyne campus covers 164 acres bordering the Salt Springs neighborhood of Syracuse with 35 buildings including 18 residential buildings. Prominent buildings on campus include Coyne Science Center, the Panasci Family Chapel, the W. Carroll Coyne Performing Arts Center, and the Thomas Niland Athletic Complex. The science complex is LEED-Gold Certified. The college library, Noreen Reale Falcone Library, was constructed in 1981 and currently contains around 900,000 materials with its own public access catalog. Around 80% of the students live on campus. Le Moyne is home to the Dolphin student newspaper that was established in 1947. It also has student radio station called WLMU. There are some unique traditions on campus. Welcoming traditions include “moving in weekend” during which current students help new students move to their dorms in addition to “the Mass of the Holy Spirit”. Other traditions include Dolphy Day, honoring 50-year graduates each May at graduation, and several lecture series the Berrigan Lecture, Loyola Lecture, and Madden Lecture. The official colors of the university are green and gold while its mascot is called the Dolphin. Its athletic teams compete in the NCAA at the Division II and the Northeast-10 Conference.
The institute is divided into 8 colleges, schools and centers including Madden School of Business, Purcell School of Professional Studies and McDevitt Center. It offers undergraduate programs in 47 majors in addition to graduate programs and programs for high school students. It is fully accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in addition to specialized accreditation of the nursing program.
