John Paul the Great Catholic University is a private university located in Escondido, California. The University emphasizes its affiliation to the Catholic Church. It was established in 2003 under the name “New Catholic University”. Its name was changed in 2005 to its current one in honor of Pope John Paul II. The first class started officially in 2006. It was temporarily located in a campus in Scripps Ranch till it moved to its current campus covering 40,000 sq. feet consisting of three buildings. The university adopted the Class Learning Test making it the third US University to take this decision. JPCatholic is governed by board of trustees, board of regents as well as a business advisory board.

The university states that its mission is to impact culture of Christ by preparing students to work in the media, business and theology following the directions of Jesus Christ.

The university offers five different programs granting bachelor and master’s degrees. It is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission. The university arranges several events to support the spiritual life of the students including Mass On-Campus.
