Indian River State College Seal About Indian River State College

Indian River State College (IRSC) is a state based college that is established in Fort Pierce City in Florida to extend its educational services to Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties. It was founded in the building of a former public school as the Indian River Junior College (IRJC) in 1959. Four years later, the Fort Pierce City donated the land of the current site to IRJC to inaugurate its current campus. Its name was changed to Indian River Community College by the members of its board of trustees to reflect the college’s efforts in providing its educational services to the surrounding communities. In 2007, the college was changed to be a four year educational institution and consequently its name was changed by its board of trustees to be Indian River College. In the following year, the board of trustees changed the name again to its current name.

IRSC campus occupies around 87 acres land in Fort Pierce lying in the former location of landfill site. In addition to the main campus in Fort Pierce, IRSC has other campuses located in  Okeechobee, St. Lucie West in Port St. Lucie, Stuart and Vero Beach. The college athletic teams who are called the Pioneers, compete in the Southern Conference of the Florida State College Activities Association.

IRSC is a global educational state institute that offers up to the standard education services to the community through a number of electronic and traditional methodologies.

IRSC offers two bachelors of applied sciences degrees in two majors. In addition, it offers 13 associate degrees in arts and 5 associate degrees in sciences. It also offers around forty five technical certificates. It offers such many and diverse associate degrees and technical certificates for people who target pursuing short term studies to start their careers. In September 2014, The college was selected by as one of the top ten community colleges in the United States the Aspen Institute.
