Hilbert College Seal About Hilbert College

Hilbert College is a private Franciscan coeducational liberal arts college. The college was established in 1957 by Mother Collette Hilbert of the Franciscan Sisters of Saint Joseph under the name of the Immaculata Teacher Training School. It was founded based on the principles of the Catholic faith and the Franciscan philosophy of the Franciscan Sisters of Saint Joseph. The name was changed in 1960 to Immaculata College. It was renamed again in 1969 to Hilbert College in honor of Mother Colette. Women were admitted to the college for the first time in 1964 and it became fully coeducational school in 1969. It started to offer 4-year bachelor degree programs in 1992 and had agreements with St. Bonaventure University to offer a master’s degree and certification at the Hamburg campus at the same year. The college introduced its own graduate program in 2011.

The college current campus is located in Hamburg, New York covering 60 acres in a suburban area. The campus contains 11 buildings in addition to the athletic fields. Bogel Hall and McGrath Library were the first buildings constructed on-campus. Other distinctive buildings include St. Joseph Residence Hall, Trinity Hall, Paczesny Hall, Swan Auditorium, the Hafner Recreation Center and Franciscan Hall. The official colors of the college are Royal Blue and White while its mascot is called Bert the Hawk. The college athletic teams compete in NCAA Division III and Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC).

The college offers 18 undergraduate programs. There are also 2 accelerated bachelor programs and 7 master’s degree programs. The College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education with specialized accreditation for specific programs. There are 9 scholarship programs that would provide financial aid to undergraduate students enrolled to the college.
