Heritage University About Heritage University

Heritage University is a private non-profit non-denominational higher education institute. It was established by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary in 1907 under the name Holy Names College in Spokane, Washington. In 1982, the college was moved to Toppenish and its name was changed to Heritage College. The old campus remained operating for 5 five more years till it was closed in 1987. In 2012, a fire destroyed the university’s oldest building which is called the Petrie Hall.

The mission states its mission is to provide high quality education to populations who did not have previously access to adequate education. The university offers liberal arts curriculum that focuses on career development supporting the life of the students and their communities.

The university main campus covers 48 acres in the rural area of Toppenish with a total of 145,519 square feet built area. Heritage offers also some programs at Columbia Basin College in the Tri-Cities; Big Bend Community College, Moses Lake; Wenatchee Valley College in addition to administrative building at Yakima. The Official colors for the university are yellow and blue while its mascot is called the Heritage Eagle.

The university is divided into two colleges offering undergraduate degrees in 15 majors, 3 master’s degree program in addition to certification programs as well as honors programs. Heritage also offers special programs as Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship MMUF and Enactus which focuses on leadership and entrepreneurship. It is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
